BOLGHERI
by the Typhus fever. Dr Carducci (Michele) and his family moved to Bolgheri to treat the people suffering from Typhus, but the Gherardesca forced them to move to Castagneto with his wife and son (Giosuè Carducci) for political reasons. When the Count of Gherardesca died, the Contea della Maremma was divided: Castagneto was inherited by the eldest son, Ugolino, and Bolgheri and Castiglioncelllo were inherited by the second son, Walfredo Fazio. Some years later, Ugolino decided to leave Bolgheri to his first-born son, Alberto Guido. In 1895 Alberto Guido made some changes; he had a tower and a higher bell-tower built. In 1900 Bolgheri was divided again and the new districts were inherited by the various relatives and the Church. The borough is dotted with artisan shops selling pottery or silver, Art galleries and osterie, where you can taste the famous Bolgheri white wine. The relaxing atmosphere and the picturesque landscape have alway been appreciated by those who seek inspiration. Among the most charming areas there is a lovely cypress-lined boulevard at the entrance of the town. People cannot help but take millionphotographs.
