GAIOLE IN CHIANTI
GAIOLE IN CHIANTI
Gaiole is a little town among the vineyards in the province of Siena. Like Greve in Chianti, it developed as crucial market town in the southern part of the Chianti region. The square which was once dominated by the seat of the Chianti League and the pilgrim hostel is today being used every week for the city market. In Gaiole people can visit many churches: the Chiesa di Spaltenna,S. Lorenzo a Ama, San Polo in Rosso, San Marcellino in Colle, San Sano and, last but not least, the S.Jacopo chapel inside the Brolio Castle. All members of the Ricasoli family were buried there (in fact, the chapel carries the family name).
