GROSSETO
GROSSETO : With 80.000 inhabitants Grosseto is located in southern Tuscany, in the Maremma area, borderingLazio. Since evidences were found in Roselle, we can suppose it was an Etruscan settlement. This province profits from its spa towns. In fact, since the hot spring waters are rich in sulphur, many visitors choose the Saturnia Thermal Baths(Manciano) as the best place to spend their holidays or weekend breaks. Among the several hot springs across the territories, we can suggest the ones in the area that stretches from Mount Amiata to the hills of Albenga and Fiora.
Places to visit:Castiglione della Pescaia, Civitella Paganico, Follonica, Isola del Giglio, Magliano in Toscana, Massa Marittima, Monte Argentario, Montieri, Pitigliano, Sorano, Scansano, Scarlino and Capalbio. The Maremma borders the Tyrrhenian Sea and includes the islands of the uscan Archipelago (Giglio Island, Elba Island, Giannutri and the Formiche di Grosseto).Another important tourist destination is Monte Argentario, with Porto SantoStefano and Porto Ercole.Monte Argentario : was once an island, but but the sea currents and the Albegna river joined it with the mainland through two so-called tomboli (stretches of land), the Tombolo della Giannella and the Tombolo dellaFeniglia. They connect Monte Argentario with Orbetello, forming the lagoon ofOrbetello. Monte Argentario was declared a protected area together with Sardinia, Liguria, Corsica and the Côte d’Azur. In 1999 the International Marine Mammals Sanctuary was instituted.
