POMPEI
POMPEI Today home to 25.600 inhabitants, the city was completely destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Visiting the remains of the ancient city, it is possible to discover what people were doing when they were buried in the ash by gazing at the detailed plaster casts of the victims. In fact, wet plaster was pumped into the holes left in the hardened ash by the corpses – that were already decomposed. Pompeei was rebuilt in 1559 and included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997. Today it is one of the most famous and visited archaeological sites in the world.
