RAVELLO
RAVELLO Ravello has 3.000 inhabitants. It is located at 315 meters above the sea level and overlooks Maiori and Minori. It became a World Heritage Site in 1996. Among the places visitors cannot miss are: the cathedral (built in the 21st century), the Church of San Giovanni del Toro, the church of Santa Chiara, the church of San Francesco and the Chiesa dell’Annunziata. Ravello is also famous for its villas and palazzo, such as Villa Cimbrone, renowned for the Belvedere, Villa Episcopio, temporary residence of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy in 1944, and Villa Rufolo, which dates back to the 13th century. The Museo del Corallo Camo is the only museum in Italy that is dedicated to the craft of modelling coral. An important example of contemporary work is the Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer, inaugurated in 2010, which took the name of its homonym architect. Ravello has always been loved as a holiday destination, but also as an idyllic setting for several films. Many celebrities have visited and enjoyed Ravello: Greta Garbo, Eduardo de Filippo, John Kennedy, Winston Churchill, Ingrid Bergman, Barbara Streisand and François Mitterrand, to name just a few. It is no accident that Ravello hosts the prominent Ravello Festival, which takes place at Villa Rufolo and is dedicated to Riccardo Wagner.
