LIVORNO - 5 TERRE - LIVORNO

Driving Times by car and Minivan up to 8 seats + driver
  • Livorno - La Spezia: 1 h
  • La Spezia - Livorno: 1 h
By minibusses and busses driving times are 20% longer ( busses have the engine limited at 100km/h - 60mls/H Minibuses and buses often have to follow the regulations of the checkpoints in the more important Italian cities: Rome, Florence, Venice, Mantua, Montecatini, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano. This is an access tax to the major Italian towns of historical and artistic interest. It refers to every bus with 9 passengers + driver or more. Plase for more infos see the dedicated page in this website http://www.privatetuscanytours.com/en/Helpful-information/

From Livorno to Liguria Region (where the 5 Terre area is) we drive along the A12. This hightway was built along the oldest road of Italy:" Aurelia" . It links Rome to France running al along the coast. The old Aurelia (nowaday paved of course and with 1 lane per direction) is still used for local traffic. We arrive in La Spezia and there start the panoramic road crossing all the 5 Towns : Manarola , Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Riomaggiore.

By car or Minivan (1-8 pax):
We remind that is impossible to reach even by car the city centre of the towns of 5 Terre (Manarola , Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Riomaggiore) there are very restricted laws about traffic limitation. The driver must dropp the passengers off at the entrance of the town and they must proceed on their own walking. Driving times from town to town are a little bit long in spite of what the tourist can immagin. narrow and winding road. So following different otions we suggest:
  • Option 1: Once arrived in La Spezia . the driver will take you to the main train station. There you can by the 5 Terre card (includes pass for train, ferry- boat and entrance of the hikingpath). The train reaches and stops in every towns of 5 Terre: Riomaggiore, Menarola, Vernazza, Corniglia, Monterosso. You can have the Round-Trip tour by train , or arrange the pick up appointment with your driver at the last town. The only negative part taking the train is that the train runs throught tunnels and the visibility on the coast is not so nice . Roughtlly the 40% of the panorama not visible. This is why we suggest Option N.2
  • Option 2: With the driver you can reach La Spezia harbour or POrto Venere Harbour ( Porto venere is Just 10 minites driving from La Spezia in direction of 5 Terre) . At any of those 2 harbour you can carch the ferry-boat. By boat you can enjoy the panorama of the coast from the sea side . And it is the best way . The boat stops at every towns ( except in Corniglia, it is located up on the cliff and has no harbour) . You get off the boat , walk around and take the next boat continuing the tour or the one that goes back... up to you). Following , the ipotetic itinerary :
  • Livorno - La Spezia or Porto Venere: by car and driver
  • La Spezia o Portovenere - Riomaggiore: by ferry-boat.
  • Riomaggiore - Manarola: walking . along the "Street of Love" or " Via dell Amore" . is a toll hicking road. Up to the legend lovers should walk along all this path hand by hand, if they succeed in this, they will be living forever end ever in love. After this walk , you arrive at Manarola , where we suggest to take advantage of the typical restaurants in towns where are served fresh fish dishes.
  • Manarola-Vernazza: By boat. Visit Vernazza
  • Vernazza - Monterosso: By boat . Visit Monterosso
  • In Monterosso you can meet your driver or you can decide to go back to La Spezia by train . Up to you .
By Minibus or Bus ( more than 8 passengers):
Following what we suggest, always with a tour assistant. The Bus will take you till La Spezia turistic harbour where you ll take the ferryboat or to the train station.
  • Livorno-La Spezia by bus, driver and Tour assistant. There the group and the assistant cach the ferry boat and the driver will be waiting for them.
  • La Spezia - Riomaggiore: By ferry-boat. Get off the boat and visit Riomaggiore
  • Riomaggiore - Mnarola: By Ferry boat. Get off the boat and visit Manarola.
  • Back to La Sezia harbour or train ststion where you ll find your driver and the bus waiting for you.

During the tour, your tour assistant will be with you. If you prefere we can hire a guide of 5 Terre to meet her/him right in La Spezia where you ll leave the bus (instead of meeting her at Livorno harbour).
