Medici Villas and shopping at Barberino Outlet Village
This tour is to enjoy an area of Tuscany that is not crowded with tourists and very beautifulfrom the point of view of architecture and of the countryside: Borgo San Lorenze, San Piero aSieve, Scarperia. The itinerary is a mix of art/history and leisure. From Florence it is just a 40minute ride by car. The first stop is the visit to the Medici Villa called Villa Cafaggiolo. VillaCafaggiolo was another country residence of the Medici family. It was built with a fortressshape. In fact, it was built around an old castle of the Florentine repubblica. Cosimo il Vecchioengaged Michelozzo Bartolomeo (famous architect at that time) to transform it into a fortresstype palace with watch towers and drawbridges. It was dedicated to be the villa for the huntingand agriculture activity of the Medici family. Cosimo il Vecchio restored all buildings around themain villa. This place became a resort where the Medici family hosted artist such as Pico dellaMrandola, Marsilio Ficino, Agnolo Poliziano (teacher of Giovanni De Medice who became PopeLeon X). During Lorena’s time it was still use by a noble family and at the unification of Italy itwas sold from the Italian state to the Borghesi Prince.For lunch your driver/tour assistant can suggest to you a local place where you can taste thefamous tortelli Mugellani, a kind of ravioli stuffed with potatoes. The afternoon will bededicated to shopping. The Barberino Outlet Village or so called Mec. Arthur Glan Outlet Village is thebiggest outlet in Tuscany.
