MARBLE CAVE TOUR

Marble Cave tour by Jeep and visit of artist's laboratory

It is our suggestion to hire a tour guide with whom you will have a full day arranged for your tour through the marble cave and main towns such as Colonnata and Carrara with the options to visit churches, museums and other historic points of interest. We can help you arrange a guide if you wish. If you do not want a guide, your English speaking driver or tour assistant
(not authorized guides but rather a practical and valuable source to help you navigate points
of interest) will give you some general information about each place. While onboard the
vehicle, the driver will orient you and suggest interesting places to experience and enjoy.
Please refer to the link on this website explaining each professional role. http://www.privatetuscanytours.com/en/Helpful-information Your driver will meet you at the location where you will be staying in Tuscany and take you to your destination. At the end of the day you will be taken back to your location. However, if you wish to be dropped off elsewhere please let the driver know ahead of time. There are no
restrictions based on the size of your party. The itinerary has little difference if you will be
going by car/van or minibus/bus. Neither Carrara, Colonnata, Massa or the road to go to the
marble caves have any check point or city entrance fee and we can reach the entrance of the city by bus so we can get you close to where you want to be. If we hired a guide for you we will pick him/her close to the town of Carrara and together reach the mountains and the caves. By car/bus you will reach a special place where you can take a tour through the caves by jeep. With the jeep driver you will see inside of the caves and the guide will explain the way the process worked from the beginning of mining marble to how
they do it today. After the tour, you may wish to have a wonderful lunch in local restaurant in the town of Colonnata. At the restaurant you will have an opportunity to taste a typical local dish called lardo di Colonnata. This is a block of lard that is salted and covered with spices then placed between two pieces of marble (like a sandwich) and aged for months inside a deep hole in the soil with a natural temperature. The result is like bacon! This area is also know for it white wine of the Lunigiana area. After lunch, driving back down the valley you can stop for a visit to one of the many artists laboratory where very skilled artisans convert the block of marble into masterpieces. Another option would be to visit the winery for a wine tasting. We ask that you plan this before your arrival. At the end of the day the driver will take you back to your hot.
